Accredited Financial Counsellor Canada Candidate (AFCC Candidate)

I love to learn and am always searching for the next course, webinar or program that will increase my skills and deepen my knowledge.

I believe in ongoing learning because as with all areas of life what was true or relevant 10 years ago may not be true or relevant today.

My Experience

I have experience helping people with a wide range of challenges including but not limited to:

addictions

mental health struggles

domestic violence

parenting

income support

providing safe care for children and youth

I value what each of these groups of people have taught me and am truly grateful I had opportunities to help them in their life’s journey in small and not so small ways.

These experiences have shaped who I am today and will ultimately impact how I help others with their financial lives through the lens of Financial Empowerment.

I believe we all deserve to live happy and fulfilling lives and to do so we need a rock solid financial foundation.

Financial Empowerment can help each of us achieve this.

I would be honored to be part of your financial journal.

My Commitment

I am committed to helping people take back control of their financial lives through a Financial Empowerment framework.

Our finances either help or hinder our goals in life.

They bring us either stress or security.

Having your personal finances in order and feeling confident about your financial goals will have a positive and lasting ripple effect on all other areas of your life especially your stress level and hope for the future.

Are you ready to take control of your finances?

My Boundaries

I take boundaries both personally and professional very seriously – especially on the internet and as a social worker in general.

It is a very different world then it was 40 years ago and personal information is now something that can be stolen, abused, weaponized or sold to the highest bidder by unethical (but often legal) companies when we accept terms and conditions (please read them before agreeing!) on the various softwares, social media platforms, email providers etc.

Personal information can also be used by others (consciously or unconsciously in our personal or professional lives) to judge (rather than assess) if we are “a good fit”. Knowing whether a person is married or not or what age they are or if they have kids has nothing to do with their ability or suitability for a particular role and does not help us get to know them – it just helps us to judge them!

This is why I do not provide any information of a personal nature or otherwise when asked in person or online in either my personal or professional life, whether it is at the grocery store, during a workshop I am running or in an online chat.

So, please do not be offended if you ask me a question and my respond is “that isn’t information I share”. I only provide information that is a “need to know” relating to what services I offer or the type of relationship it is (random stranger, acquaintance, client etc.).

What training/education/experience I have in Financial Empowerment would be a perfectly appropriate question to ask if you are considering purchasing one of my services (this is why I include this information on my website), however asking me questions like: I am married or own a house or have pets or how old I am has no relevance to if I am capable of providing the services I offer (that is why you will not find this information on my website).

Asking these types of personal questions has been ingrained in many of us from birth under the guise of getting to know someone. But these types of questions don’t help us to get to know each other (that takes time and mutual respect), they help us make quick assumptions about a person that are ill-founded and usually horribly judgmental.

I have chosen to disentangle myself from this practice and embrace respecting other people’s privacy as well as my own.

It is natural to be curious about someone new in our lives whether at work or in our communities or online but before you ask them for personal information ask yourself is this information really going to help me to get to know the person or simply pass judgement on them. Can I wait until they are comfortable offering information about themselves? What relevance does this question really have to my relationship with this person? Do I need to know what I am asking to work with them, to be friends with them, to volunteer with them?

Just some food for thought! 😉
